During Mughal era, this art was brought to India from Persia by ruler Humayun. Our Rajasthani artists gave this art a different dimension with their own style of strong lines and bold colours. This art form is then evolved here in the whole Marwar-Mewar region of Rajasthan.

This particular miniature art is based on Maharas played by Krishna and Radha which is appreciated by many great Gods and Goddesses. One night, when Shree Krishna played His flute, Gopies, upon hearing the sound of Krishna's flute, sneak away from their households and families to the forest to dance with Krishna throughout the night. When the Gopis finally reached Shree Krishna, they were told by Shree Krishna to return to their homes and, as a result, a debate took place between Shree Krishna and the Gopis. Shree Krishna was defeated. After that, Maharas began. Krishna supernaturally stretches the length of that night. Shree Krishna was playing Raas with all the Gopies and so at the time of Maharas, the Gopis developed pride of being superior to other women. The Maharas is considered to be one of the highest and most esoteric of Krishna's pastimes.

This painting is nicely finished and has intricate pattern that compliment its beauty. It is created by using precious and semi-precious gemstones colours. No artificial/synthetic colors used.
